“Every emotion is connected to your breath. When you change your breath, its rhythm, you can change the emotion.”
– Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Science meets Experience
Breathwork is becoming an increasingly popular tool for personal growth and development. Interest in these millennia-old practices is also growing within the scientific community.
The psychedelic renaissance is also a widely discussed topic: increasing research demonstrates the therapeutic potential of substances like psilocybin, LSD, and similar compounds for mental health issues. These developments have also spurred a boom in breathwork interventions.
Breathwork methods such as Light Breathwork, Conscious Connected Breath, Psychedelic Breath, and Holotropic Breathwork offer substance-free and legal alternatives to classic psychedelics for inducing altered states of consciousness. They provide new perspectives in the healing of trauma or depression and can lead to improved health and resilience.
But what exactly is known about the health benefits and risks of breathwork? What are the psychological and neurological mechanisms that facilitate transformation, and what strategies can be employed to make breathwork accessible to as many individuals seeking support as possible?
We invite you to the inaugural Berlin Breathwork Days to explore these questions alongside pioneers of the new breathwork movement, scientists, yoga instructors, psychiatrists, and psychotherapists. You will experience various breathwork techniques and methods, and we will screen the breathtaking documentary AWARE (Journey into Consciousness).
The Lovers & Leaders + Humboldt Universität
The Berlin Breathwork Days are initiated by Yasmine Orth of The Lovers & Leaders, and notably, Friday's program is organized in cooperation with Prof. Isabel Dziobek from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
Study
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, in collaboration with the Ernst Strüngmann Institute for Neuroscience in Frankfurt, is currently conducting the largest controlled study worldwide on hyperventilation-based breathwork. This investigation aims to examine the effect of several weeks of breathwork on the mental health of individuals with trauma, identifying the underlying psychological and neurofunctional mechanisms. Additionally, the study explores the comparability of brain mechanisms involved in rapid breathwork with those of classic psychedelics.
We look forward to an engaging exchange and inspiring experiences!
