First Initiative of the Berlin Breathwork Council: Online Survey and Call for Breathwork Experiences

The Berlin Breathwork Council brings together practitioners and scientists to strengthen quality, safety, and transparency in the field of breathwork.
As its first joint project, an interdisciplinary task force comprising Council members – in collaboration with Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of Potsdam – has developed a scientifically supervised online survey.

This anonymous study investigates how individuals experience intensive, activating, or consciousness-expanding breathwork – on emotional, physical, and mental levels. The aim is to establish initial data-driven foundations to better understand risks and potentials, to develop standards, and to help shape future guidelines.

The survey was approved by the Ethics Committee of Humboldt University of Berlin and represents an important step towards evidence-based quality development in breathwork practice.

Call for Participation: Help us scientifically research breathwork!

Dear Breathwork Facilitators,

The first research project of the Berlin Breathwork Council is live:
An anonymous online survey on immediate experiences after intensive breathwork – developed in cooperation with Humboldt University of Berlin, the University of Potsdam, and practicing facilitators from the Council.

👉 Now we need you!

Please support the research by sharing the survey with your participants – immediately after the session via email, messenger, or with our digital/printed flyer.
Participation requirement: a breathwork session with activated or accelerated breathing within the last 7 days.

🎯 Objective: To gather initial evidence-based data on the effects, safety, and potential of breathwork, serving as a foundation for future guidelines, disclaimers, and responsible practice.

🧾 Duration of participation: approx. 20–25 minutes

In appreciation, upon completion of the study, you will receive a clear summary of the findings that you can utilize in your work with participants.

Let us collectively contribute to making breathwork safer, more effective, and more evidence-based.

Thank you for your valuable support!
